Kuveždin:
with the SAINT SAVA church
On the south west of Fruška Gora near Divoša in Kuveždin there are the remnants of this Saint Sava monastery. It can be reached by the road Ležimir - Vizić and then make a turn at the left turn sign post. Continue for another 2-3 km and make a left to the only adjacent road. The road is bad but short. Or you can arrive from the direction of Divoš and make a right turn. The monastery's church is dedicated to Saint Sava and his father Stefan Nemanja. The monastery was errected by the Serbian Despot Stefan Štiljanović in 1520. Monks from the monasteries Vinča and Slanci stayed there. That is when they brought with them, fleeing from the Turks, numerous valuables among which were books, mineyas from 1581, a silver sacramental container from the year 1654 as well as a glass for Holy Sacrament from 1559 that the Russian King Ivan IV the Terrible presented to the Mileševa monastery. On the litography of M. Troch from 1837/41 the monastery looks like a castle surrounded by a beautiful park and greenery. Today, although in ruins, it is still possible to have a glimpse of its former beauty. During WWII the monastery underwent significant destruction. The dome and baroque bell tower have been reconstructed and after that the whole church. The monastery is officially male. It has one monk and it is not active.
