Mala Remeta :
with the church of the SHROUD OF THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD
In the central area of Fruška Gora near the place of Mala Remeta in the silence and lush greenery surely the smallest and maybe the most beautiful monastery of Fruška Gora is situated. You can reach it from Vrdnik going to the center of Jazak where the right turn sign post is, pass through the whole village and make a right at the village exit before the hill and then straight to the monastery. According to myth, the monastery was built by the "Srem king" Dragutin. The oldest information about Mala Remeta or Remetica was saved in turkish land registries from 1545. The Turks burned down and ravaged the monastery. In the year 1679 Arsenije Čarnojević allowed the monks from the monastery to inhabit Mala Remeta and rebuild it. The look of the church is rustic and exudes a spirit of old times. You have the impression that time is standing still. The dormatories were errected in 1758. The church does not have an errected tower. The monastery possessed a library with 300 books. During WWII all of that was robbed and destroyed. The bell is beside the church on wooden poles with a tin roof. That is where the chapel of Saint Iliya is also situated. The monastery is active, female and in the care of the nuns.
