Petkovica:
with the church of SAINT PETKA
This monastery which is one of the oldest in Fruška Gora is situated in the southwest of Fruška Gora near Ležimir, beside Šišatovac. It was errected by Jelena Štiljanović, the widow of the Serbian Despot Stevan Štiljanović that spent the last days of her life there. The first written document dates from 1561. The church was made of stone. The foundation is in the shape of a cross. It is of smaller size. It is an octagonal dome on colonades. At the head of the church is a baroque bell tower. The facade is ornamented. It has been reconstructed many times. The frescoes have been quite ruined and what remains today has been conservated. The church yard with the dormatories and other objects is finely decorated. The monastery's fish pond lays beside it. A great church sanctity are the remains of Saint Petka, her arm, which is in a blue coffin next to the left colonade. The monastery is active, female and in the care of three nuns.
