Privina Glava:
with the church of the HOLY ARCHANGELS
It is situated on the furthest west slopes of Fruška Gora and it can be reached from the direction of Šid, through Berkasovo to Bikić Do then along the road to the right turn sign post which leads to the monastery. According to legend, the monastery was named after the feudal lord Priba or Priva who errected it in the 12th century. It is more probable that it was errected by Jovan Branković in the 15th century alongside his fort in Berkasovo. That is what is also written in the old manuscript "Psaltir", written in Istanbul and on Holy Atol, which belonged to the Branković family. The first written mention comes from turkish documents that originate from 1566. Its current look the church got in 1741. It has a high octogonal dome decorated by colonettes. It was built from various coloured stones. The church is similar to those in the monasteries of Jazak, Mala Remeta and Hopovo. The church has a high bell tower. The monastery dormatories have two wings. Part of the dormatories is a chapel dedicated to the Shrine of the Holy Mother of God. The cap or crown of Despot John is especially interesting and is safeguarded in the monastery's vault. It is made of green plush, ornamented with silver and gold thread. The monastery has been rebuilt many times. In WWII it was robbed. Today the monastery is in good condition. It is an active monastery, female and is in the care of the nuns.
