Old Hopovo:
under reconstruction
Isolated and inaccessible (even the surrounding summer roads have, since they only rarely see travelers, have almost completely overgrown with grass), is located about two kilometres Northeast of Novo Hopovo. Of the monastery complex, only the church remains while the wing of the guesthouse north from it and the accompanying buildings lie in ruins. Only one hundred meters upstream is the brick-made spring with cold drinking water. When you cross the stream and go downstream after 40 metres you will encounter one of the rare springs of mineral water that exist in Fruška Gora. The source was quite neglected, but has since been regulated and it can lead to sulphuric water that has the temperature of 18,5° C. This water significantly differs from all the other mineral waters of Fruška Gora (it contains sulphur-hydrogen). The capacity of this source is small (about two litres per minute). The water has not been tested so far, so it's medicinal properties are as yet unknown, but the visitors of this part of Fruška Gora use it for drinking. Near the monastery and the spring there is a path that goes left, uphill and leads through the woods to the nearby opening in the shape of an amphitheatre and the old deserted stone quarry from where the stone was probably quarried for the building of the guesthouses and additional buildings of the monastery in Old Hopovo. That is where the entrance to a semi-circular, semi-spheric cave of imposing dimensions (it is actually a large subcave). At its end there are rocks and blocks so it is impossible to determine whether that is the true end of the corridor. This cave belongs to the group of dry caves without flowing or underground waters. The past of this monstery is quite unknown.
